Baysville History

The first habitation in the Baysville area, was a hut built by Langford, Attridge, Forrester and Gilbert, in October 1870. These men had walked from Bracebridge to find their locations in McLean Township. It was necessary for them to follow engineers' blazes on trees to find their way.

Baysville Community

The community of Baysville is a tiny village on the Muskoka River at the narrows of Lake of Bays. This village is the southern gateway to the township from Toronto through to Algonquin Park and towards Ottawa. This tiny village of approximately 350 permanent residents is part of Muskoka, a well known getaway for city dwellers. Once upon a time historic Hollywood stars and entertainers would pass through on their way to stay at the famous Bigwin Resort.
